Read Sea View Resort & Spa Koh Chang Accommodations Reviews |
 |

The Sea View has several things going for it: the location (being in Ko Chang Kai Bae general and particular), the ground and a swimming pool, beautiful views across the water, good taste and traditional design of buildings, name a few.
However, like other have mentioned, there is certainly room for improvement. We had a bad start with this hotel. We booked a 2 bedroom standard villa one day before through a site tour of Ko Chang, 2200 baht per room per night. This seems quite cheap compared to advertising rates in some of the other websites of hotel reservations before us. We received an email on the website that says "check on you tomorrow," but should contact the hotel directly. So I sent the email and also details of our original reservation, email resevations on Mar Vista's own website. However, when we arrived the next day, claimed to have no record of our reservation and charged us 2500 baht for standard rooms, saying their houses were not available for three nights of our stay.
Despite this disappointment, the rooms are not too bad. They are not as extensive as the houses, but were closer to the beach with a great view across the water to nearby islands. Although the floor has been worn and had a flake of peeling paint our roof, the beds were comfortable and the furnishings were all zero. Other parts of the station seemed more recent, and / or pleasant, but there was also a large variation in prices between different types of rooms (standard rooms and houses are cheaper).
Bathrooms in standard rooms are quite normal and it seemed that it could use an update. There was mold in the grout of the wall tile and floor were covered with accumulated dirt - it appeared that the soil layers of old polish, but was scratched in places that were exposed below the tiles and the dirt really remarkable . Although it was more annoying in the basin tap. It's the kind of public toilets in you: drive and cold water jets out for 2 seconds before it shuts down.
Makes it very difficult if I wanted to make something out of sunscreen and wash your hands. I know that water conservation is important, but when I pay for accommodation if I want to be treated as trust me to turn the tap off me! At least the shower, though old, worked well. Brownie points to provide conditioning and shampoo too!
Another annoying detail is that the removal of your room key all the power of the court room, including the mini-bar. This means you can not store milk
or ice, or return to his room after he had been for a while and enjoy a cool drink.
Turning to the positive, the pool was great and the resort has its own area of the small private beach. It seems as though it has improved a little with sand imported, but the water is clear, warm and lovely to swim in the first day we were there there was no place to sit at the beach and lounge chairs are all claimed, but the next day supplemented it with some of the loungers and hammocks had much to go around. There are a couple of table tennis tables
on the beach for something different. Double kayaks rent for 150 baht per hour and paddled through the nearest island, which was fairly easy to do in an hour.
The grounds are quite large and is a bit of a trek to go to our rooms for the reception / restaurant area, but had little golf buggies zipping around and I'm sure you could ask for the receipt of a pick-up, if you were not too mobile. We did get to pick our bags when we checked out. The grounds are well maintained, almost too well, indeed, as one of my colleagues began to complain of the incessant sound of the paths are swept out of your bedroom!
The breakfast buffet, though not the best thing that has offered a reasonable choice, both Asian and Western. We ate at the restaurant one night, but thought it was a bit ordinary for the price. We preferred KHARMA restaurant in Kai Bae, directed by Veronica, a Swedish expatriate friend, (I never expected to see Swedish meatballs served in a banana leaf)!
To get to the strip Kae Bae can walk along the road (only about 300 - 400, but a huge hill and not recommended) or you can walk on a track that starts near the beach Bungalow Porn and the next. This is a 15-20-minute walk. Ended up making quite a few times, as there is a lack of local transport and taxi drivers always together more than 100 baht, even for a short road trip. The first time I walked in Kae Bae, the reception staff told us to just walk along the beach. |
